Sharpen your SAP coding skills at the UKISUG ABAP Developers Event

Published on

ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming) is vital for developers creating custom code for SAP S/4HANA, SAP Cloud Platform, and more. With SAP tools and products evolving faster than ever, there is no such thing as a stable development environment, meaning even the most experienced developers need to understand the latest capabilities to make the most out of ABAP.

The User Group will be running its first ever ABAP Developers Event next month, as part of our UKISUG Digital Showcase. Taking place on the 19th-20th October, the event will combine expert-led talks with hands-on workshops to give SAP developers and architects a chance to expand their skills.

This practical event is aimed at developers with a good knowledge of ABAP and ABAP Development Tools (ADT) for Eclipse. A basic knowledge of Core Data Services (CDS) and insight into SAP Cloud Platform, ABAP environment is also recommended. For those who have not used SAP Cloud Platform before, a tutorial can be found here, which will get you up to speed before the event.

SAP will begin the first day by outlining its roadmap and strategy for ABAP. Then, there will be a hands-on workshop about developing a cloud-enabled transactional SAP Fiori App with the ABAP RESTful Application Programming model (RAP). The first day will also feature a preview of RAP from the Labs, before a final session focused on custom code adaptation for SAP S/4HANA and SAP Cloud Platform, ABAP environment.

The second day will focus in on the SAP Cloud Platform, ABAP Environment. The first two talks will discuss feedback from customer projects and the roadmap and outlook for the future. This will be followed by a workshop on developing a hybrid app with SAP Cloud Platform using connectivity and integration features. Finally, there will be a session on Git enabled lifecycle management, before attendees can offer up feedback and discuss the event.

To save onboarding time, participants should have a working ADT installation to follow the hands-on workshop instructions. They should also be a valid SAP Cloud Platform trial user, which can be set up here. The cost for members will be £150, whereas non-members can attend for £398. We look forward to seeing you there.
