How can Syniti help organisation resolve their SAP challenges?

The data challenges facing organisations running SAP – and how to solve them

Today, data is a critical factor in business success across nearly every industry, meaning a robust data management strategy is a must. This is especially important for SAP user organisations as they move from ECC. 6.0 to S/4HANA.

However, research from data management experts, Syniti, has revealed that over three quarters of organisations surveyed believe that data management presents a challenge when moving to S/4HANA, and 82% say data management challenges will slow their adoption of AI technologies.

So, what are the data problems organisations face? And, how does poor data management affect major data migrations and technology adoption?

Why managing data matters

This survey found that 79% of respondents have increased their use of data analytics over the last 12 months. However, only 12% of these organisations have a comprehensive data strategy. Indeed, a mere 7% are very confident in the quality and accessibility of their organisation’s data.

What’s more the vast majority of organisations found that data silos stifle real-time decision-making, and that data duplication is an ongoing barrier to effective data management.

How data affects migrations

SAP systems continue to provide mission-critical insights into operations and customer behaviours. These insights are particularly valuable as organisations look to derive more value from their data, experiment with tools such as Generative AI, and modernise their operations.

With a growing number of organisations embarking on their journey to S/4HANA, it’s imperative they have a robust data archiving and management strategy in place. However, only 59% of survey respondents say they have either implemented or are planning to implement a data archiving strategy when moving to S/4HANA. On the other hand, 15% say they don’t have or plan to implement a strategy. Without taking this step, these organisations risk creating unnecessary migration delays and will fail to realise the full value of moving to a new platform.

The growing need to solve the data puzzle

Recognising the importance of data is not new, but organisations must constantly reassess how they manage their data to ensure they use it to drive business results, and support with digital transformation. From having clean, compliant data sources, through to ensuring clear ownership of data strategy and management, a data-first approach is needed to compete in the digital-first world.
