SAP announces RISE Migration and Modernisation Programme

Published on

You may have seen today that, in response to customer feedback, SAP has announced the creation of its RISE with SAP Migration and Modernisation Programme, which is intended to facilitate customers’ move to the cloud.

As part of the programme, SAP will be offering a limited-time offer that may reduce the cost of migration by up to 50% and shorten the time to value. Through the end of 2024, when moving to RISE or GROW with SAP, S/4HANA and ECC customers will have access to credits that can be applied to offset the cost of maintenance, cloud services or cloud subscriptions. This incentive will include S/4HANA Cloud and line-of-business solutions such as Supply Chain, Human Resources, Spend management, CRM, business transformation tools and the Business Technology Platform (BTP) for extensibility.

At UKISUG, we’re pleased to see that SAP has listened to the concerns of our members and has engaged with us over the challenges its new cloud innovation strategy creates for on-premise customers. The RISE with SAP Migration and Modernisation Programme is a welcome first step and the financial incentives will help current ECC customers make the business case for moving to the cloud. We will be canvassing the opinion of members who made the move to S/4HANA on-premise, to see if the financial incentives offset the additional costs they will incur from moving to the cloud in order to access the latest innovations. We look forward to understanding the details, but this is definitely a move in the right direction.

Due to the complexity and criticality of their implementations, there will still be a significant number of on-premise customers who won’t be moving their core SAP system to RISE. For those organisations, being able to access the latest innovations through BTP will be important if they are not to be left behind. This is an area we will continue to push SAP on, as we are led to believe that there is no technical reason why this isn’t possible.

As a user group, we will continue to engage with SAP to ensure that all customers and our members have access to the latest innovation and aren’t penalised for investing in an on-premise or hybrid version of S/4HANA.

SAP plans to share further information about the RISE with SAP Migration and Modernisation Programme at a global virtual event “RISE into the Future”, taking place on February 28, register here for details.
